Rogers State University junior Lydia Sitorus recently got an “Atta girl” directly from the U.S. House of Representatives.
Sitorus, a member of the RSU women’s golf team, last month received a letter from Rep. Josh Brecheen, 2nd District of Oklahoma, congratulating her on her victory at the 2024 NCAA Women’s Division II Central Region Golf Championship.
Held May 6-8 at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, the championship was hosted by RSU and included teams from the Great American Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
Rep. Brecheen’s letter commended Sitorus for her “hard work and perseverance.”
“You have shown that with focus, determination and a willingness to work together, anything is possible,” Brecheen wrote. “Congratulations on your incredible accomplishment, and we wish you all the best in the future.”
At the championship, Sitorus finished as the individual champion by 5 strokes with a total card of 214 (-2). Her performance helped secure the RSU team’s spot in the national championship in Orlando, Florida.
A native of Bitung, Indonesia, Sitorus also earned WGCA (Women’s Golf Coaches Association) Honorable Mention All-American distinction in May 2024. Earlier in the season, she was named WGCA All-Central Region, as well as First Team All-MIAA.
