The inaugural Rogers State University Oklahoma Women in Higher Education lecture series will feature insights from Dr. Deborah Gist, Superintendent for Tulsa Public Schools and OU-Tulsa Professor in Education Leadership and Policy Studies.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, in the Baird Hall Performance Studio on the Claremore campus. Dr. Gist will be speaking about visionary leadership and her view on leadership has shaped and guided her career and personal aspirations.
A Tulsa native, Dr. Gist joined Tulsa Public Schools in 2015 as Superintendent for the state’s second largest public school system, which serves nearly 40,000 students. She formerly served as the District of Columbia’s first State Superintendent where she oversaw early childhood, elementary, secondary, adult, and higher education. Before joining TPS, she served as Rhode Island’s Education Commissioner. Her education experience also includes serving as an elementary school teacher in Texas, designing and implementing a literacy program at 108 schools in Florida, and serving as a senior policy analyst for the U.S. Department of Education
RSU OKWHE will hold several lectures during the academic year. The guest speakers will focus on promoting leadership opportunities for women through networking, mentoring, publishing, and career planning.
