A Sept. 30 voter registration and education event at Rogers State University aims to promote student awareness and participation in the upcoming election.
The event, called RSU & American PIE (Pride in Electing), is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Student Union deck. A voter registration booth will be available and election officials will provide information about upcoming races and state questions. In addition, several student bands are expected to perform, and free food, games and other activities will be provided.
“Our purpose is to make sure that RSU students have the opportunity to know about the issues, the candidates and voting process so that they can make informed choices at the polls,” said Amy Neff, the RSU Student Government Association secretary and the RSU campus representative for Vocal Oklahomans in Civic Engagement (VOICE), a statewide student group organized through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to increase student involvement in public life.
“We really wanted to have the event have like a casual block party atmosphere, where students can get together informally and learn more about the electoral process,” said Neff, a communications sophomore from Bartlesville.
Voter registration forms also will be available throughout the semester at the Office of Student Affairs, which is located inside the Student Union.
The RSU event is sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Student Government Association and the Student Activities Board.
