A variety of scholarship and financial aid opportunities are available for the fall semester at Rogers State University.
“Students should apply as soon as possible for scholarships or other forms of financial aid since funding for some programs is limited,” said Cynthia Hoyt, RSU director of financial aid.
Fall classes begin on Thursday, Aug. 19, on RSU’s campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville and Pryor. Enrollment will continue through the second week of classes.
RSU offers several academic scholarships in addition to the many endowed scholarships provided by individuals, foundations, and organizations through the RSU Foundation.
The academic scholarships include the Regents’ Scholarships, the President’s Scholarships, the Academic Excellence Scholarships and the Academic Merit Scholarships, in amounts of up to $24,000 for four years of study at RSU.
Scholarship awards will be based on ACT scores and grade point average. Prospective students who plan to enroll for the fall semester still may apply for the scholarships, Hoyt said.
In addition, the RSU Foundation offers many scholarships based on financial need and academic achievement, including Sarkeys Scholarships, ConocoPhillips Opportunity Scholarships, unrestricted scholarships, restricted scholarships, and endowed scholarships provided by more than 50 permanent endowments. The endowments were established by individuals, organizations and businesses in northeast Oklahoma.
These scholarships are in addition to other sources of financial aid available at RSU, including tuition waivers and federal grant and loan programs including federal Pell Grants, Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (SEOG), Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grants (OTAG), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Grants, state/federal work study assistance, vocational programs offered through the GI Bill and Veteran’s Administration and a variety of student loan programs.
“For students who live at home and attend RSU, scholarships or other forms of financial aid will often pay a large portion, if not all, of a student’s tuition and fees,” Hoyt said.
Students may apply for any RSU scholarship by completing the RSU scholarship application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available in the financial aid office at any of RSU’s campuses or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students who complete the RSU scholarship application will be considered for all scholarships available at the university.
In addition to the application, students must submit ACT scores (if the applicant is under 21), a high school transcript or GED scores, a completed FAFSA form and college transcripts from any previously attended institutions.
