The Rogers State University Police Department has announced the promotion of Joseph Batt from police officer to police sergeant.
“A sergeant earns the title by their commitment, enthusiasm, motivation and leadership skills. Sergeant Batt has demonstrated those qualities since day one. He is very deserving of this title,” RSUPD Chief of Police Louis Ross said.
Sergeant Batt is a 19-year veteran in law enforcement and has been with the Rogers State University Police Department for three years. Prior to RSU, Batt worked for the Rogers County Sheriff’s Department for approximately 12 years where he served in various positions from supervisor, field training officer to patrol. Batt has a broad range of experience with expertise in investigations, narcotics, crimes against person or property and traffic.
“Sergeant Batt stood out as I recognized his commitment to excellence and desire to provide expedient, quality services to RSU internal and external stakeholders,” Chief Ross said.
Batt’s prior experience and knowledge as a field training officer will help the RSUPD build a quality field training curriculum for existing and newly hired officers. A field training program ensures RSUPD officers are well trained to serve, respond and protect the members of the RSU community with unyielding integrity, established excellence and exceptional personnel.
“I am excited about being promoted, and I look forward to playing an active role in creating a better work environment for the officers of the RSUPD. I am committed to helping our officers learn how to better serve the members of the RSU community,” Batt said.
Batt is a second-generation police officer. His father, Ronnie Batt, retired as deputy chief of police of Pryor, Oklahoma. His mother, Teresa Batt, graduated from the Rogers States University nursing program in 1990.
“Batt has often expressed his desire to prevent crime and provide a safe higher educational environment for students, faculty, and staff by applying problem solving techniques designed to meet the needs of the public we serve. This promotion is well deserved,” Chief Ross said.
The Rogers State University Police Department is a division of the Office of Student Affairs. RSUPD is a full-time, state certified police department with officers on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. RSUPD is staffed by commissioned peace officers that meet the standards of the Oklahoma Council for Law Enforcement Education and Training.
