Rogers State University will host student leaders from across the state during the annual Oklahoma Student Government Association (OSGA) conference to be held Feb. 24-25 on the Claremore campus.
“This will be the first time for RSU to host the statewide OSGA conference and we’re very excited to show off our campus,” said Shawn Reiss, president of the RSU Student Government Association.
OSGA, an organization of student leaders from colleges and universities across Oklahoma, addresses the concerns of Oklahoma college students. OSGA delegates will be addressing legislation that concerns issues on the minds of college students like textbook prices and financial aid. The delegates will also be voting on next year’s officers.
OSGA is responsible for taking these concerns to the state decision-making bodies including the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the governor’s office and the state legislature.
Each year, the OSGA conference is hosted by colleges and universities from across the state and this marks the first time RSU has hosted the group. Event organizers expect about 100 students from 15 institutions to attend this year’s conference.
While visiting Claremore, the students will provide a boost to the local economy by staying in area hotels, eating at local restaurants and shopping locally, Reiss said. In addition to the association’s slate of meetings, campus organizers also have planned formal and informal social events for the attendees.
