Rogers State University will host the Oklahoma Northeast Regional High School Speech Competition on March 24-25.
The event is expected bring in more than 350 area high school students to the campus to participate in various speech and debate competitions. The regional competition will include schools participating in class 2A and 1A.
The students will participate in events including standard oratory, poetry, prose, dramatic or humorous interpretation, foreign or domestic extemporaneous speaking, monologue, humorous or dramatic duet acting, Lincoln-Douglas debate and cross-examination debate.
The tournament will be utilizing a variety of facilities on campus including Herrington Hall, the Health Sciences Building, Thunderbird Hall and the Will Rogers Auditorium.
Winners from the regional competition will advance to the state tournament on April 6-8 at the University of Oklahoma.
Donna Landon, speech instructor for Claremore Sequoyah High School, is the tournament director, and Jennifer Denslow, speech instructor for Oologah-Talala High School, is the tournament site coordinator.
