Come be part of history and try out for Roger State University’s first-ever Spirit Squad. RSU is holding a clinic and tryouts for the university’s cheerleading squad on April 27 and 28.
The tryouts are open for men and women who are full-time students at RSU starting in the fall 2007 semester. Scholarships will be awarded to those who make the squad.
The cheer squad clinic will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Bushyhead Fieldhouse and tryouts will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the fieldhouse.
Participants must complete a Spirit Squad application by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 23, to take part in the clinic and tryout. High school seniors participating must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and current RSU students or transfer students auditioning must have a cumulative GPA of 2.25 to be eligible for tryout.
The Spirit Squad will cheer on the RSU Hillcat basketball teams during the 2007-2008 season and may be called upon to support RSU’s other athletic programs. Students will be judged on a variety of skills including jumps, chants, cheer and tumbling by qualified and neutral judges.
“The Spirit Squad is just one of the many new Hillcat traditions that RSU is creating,” said Amanda Walker, RSU director of student activities. “The Spirit Squad will be an instrumental part of school spirit on campus.”
All competitors must show proof of health insurance. The clinic and tryouts are closed events. For more information visit www.rsu.edu, email [email protected] or call (918) 343-7579.
