Students Eric Giddeon, Keenan Mackey and Hannah Westlund rehearse for the upcoming RSU Theatre production of “Love Locked.”
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Rogers State University Theatre Program presents “Love Locked,” two one-act plays about love, to be performed Feb. 12-15 in Claremore and Bartlesville.
The production will premiere on Wednesday and Thursday at the Baird Hall Performance Studio on the Claremore campus, then will move to the Bartlesville Community Center on Friday and Saturday. All performances will begin at 7:07 p.m.
RSU students performing in the play are Keenan Mackey of Cushing, Eric Giddeon of Cushing, Matt McCann of Miami, Stirling Mackie of Claremore, Hannah Westlund of Owasso and Rachel Smith of Jenks. The play is directed by RSU associate professor David Blakely, who also is the RSU Theatre Program director.
“Prom Night” by Sylvia Davenport-Veith won second place in the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild Play Competition for Youth Theatre. The play centers on a boy and a girl who separately leave their prom and the unlikely couple meet in the woods while still dressed in their fancy prom clothes. During the course of the evening, they tell the truth to each other, share secret wishes and find out what’s really behind their stories. Actors in the play will be Laci Kirk of Copan, Shane Whitchurch of Bartlesville, and Ashley Bailey of Bartlesville. The play is directed by Bob Shell, who teaches speech and theatre appreciation at the Bartlesville campus and has been active in the Bartlesville theatre community.
“Present Tense” by John McNamara also centers on prom and insecurities of youth. The story features a series of imaginative and humorous blackouts where the main character’s worst fears become real as we see all that is going on inside his head through wildly exaggerated daydreams depicting the fear and embarrassment of possible rejection by the girl he loves. Student actors in the play are Keenan Mackey of Cushing, Matt McCann of Miami, Stirling Mackie of Claremore, Eric Giddeon of Cushing, Hannah Westlund of Owasso and Rachel Smith of Jenks. The play is directed by RSU associate professor David Blakely, who also is the RSU Theatre Program director.
Admission for regular performances is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and $2 for RSU faculty, staff and students who present university ID. All proceeds will benefit student participation in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival regional competition.
Seating is limited to 99 for the Baird Hall Performance Studio, so reservations with the theatre department box office are strongly recommended.
The next scheduled production for RSU Theatre is “Speech and Debate,” on April 10-12 and 17-19 at the Will Rogers Auditorium.
