The Rogers State University chapter of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) is gearing up to attend the SIFE Regional Competition to be held April 12 in Dallas.
This is the second year that RSU SIFE students have participated in the competitive event, which is estimated to have an attendance of more than 1,000 students, faculty and supporters.
This competition will allow SIFE teams from across the United States to demonstrate how they promoted and educated others on the five SIFE pillars of free enterprise: free market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and business ethics. During the competition, each team will give a 37-minute presentation on the various community service and program sustainability projects they undertook during the year.
This year, RSU SIFE is one out of only 500 of the nearly 1,000 teams in the United States qualified for regional competition.
“This is an awesome opportunity and I am looking forward to attending the regional competition this year,” said Jordan Humphrey of Claremore, president of RSU SIFE. “Last year when we attended competition, we entered as a ‘rookie’ team. This year we will be aiming for bigger awards.”
Humphrey said the most exciting thing he’s seen this year is how RSU SIFE students can come together and empower others by teaching them about how the free enterprise system works.
RSU students who will be participating in the regional competition include Humphrey, Heath Clark of Claremore, Kandice Drake of Covington, Don Horn of Tulsa and Emma Mutinda of Kangundo, Kenya.
Martha Jagel, instructor in RSU’s Department of Business and advisor for the local site group, said students who participate in the group are bringing a lot of positive attention to the university. Students who are active in the local chapter will also enhance their business and life skills, she said.
Organized in 2004, RSU SIFE is part of the world’s largest active global network of college students consisting of more than 2,400 college and university campuses in over 45 countries worldwide. The mission of SIFE is to empower others by teaching and promoting the free enterprise system.
