Rogers State University students and an alumnus earned three statewide awards in the annual Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association student awards competition in April. The OBEA competition featured entrants from 11 of the state’s comprehensive, regional and private universities.
RSU senior Cade Thomas of Broken Arrow earned first place in the television documentary category for “The Rise of esports” detailing the growth of this sport locally and nationally. Recent graduate Austin Burwell of Dewar earned second place for his radio podcast “Musician’s Haven: Finding Fellowship and Friendship through Music.”
Students in the fall class for Corporate Media Production earned a third place award in informational video category for ”RSU Communications: Broadcasting and New Media.”
OBEA members include the state’s largest public universities, regional universities, community colleges and private colleges and universities. OBEA members work closely with the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters to promote quality broadcast education and professional preparation. During the April 4 event in Oklahoma City, students attended a radio and TV job fair, while faculty attended OBEA meetings.
