Members of Rogers State University’s student organizations will be hosting a week of fundraising activities during “Hillcat Giveback Week” from April 24 through 28.
Senior Victoria Middleton is the event organizer and says the week reflects the giving spirit of Rogers State University’s student body.
“Personally, I always try to be a very philanthropic person,” she said. “I believe there’s a lot of benefit to not yourself as an individual but obviously the people around you, when you give back to your community and those who need assistance.
“Something I’ve found at RSU is that we have a large student community that’s very philanthropic,” she said. “These student and Greek organizations coming together like this really says a lot about our school and our students – how giving of themselves that they are individually and collectively.”
Activities scheduled during Hillcat Giveback Week include:
- Monday, April 24: 5K run, hosted by Phi Delta Theta, benefiting Alzheimer’s Association (Oklahoma chapter). This event begins at 3 p.m. in the UVC parking lot.
- Tuesday, April 25: Volleyball tournament, hosted by Alpha Sigma Alpha, benefitting Oklahoma Special Olympics. This event is from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be held in the UVA court.
- Wednesday, April 26: “Pie a President” event, hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA) and Campus Activities Team (CAT), benefitting Rogers County Youth Services. This event will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the lawn of the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center.
- Thursday, April 27: Best Man on Campus competition, benefitting Kami’s Kids (charity) in Claremore. This competition will begin at 7 p.m. in the Will Rogers Auditorium on RSU’s Claremore campus.
The total amount raised from the week’s activities will be revealed in a ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center.
“Our goal for the week is $3,000, which I know we can raise,” Middleton said.
