Tuttle native Shelbee Base, a sophomore at Rogers State University, has been selected by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education as a Brad Henry International Scholar.
As a scholarship recipient, Base will spend the spring 2024 semester studying at Swansea University in Wales, United Kingdom.
“I’m truly thankful for this opportunity to spend a semester studying at Swansea University in Wales,” Base said. “This will be a very unique opportunity for me to learn about American government and politics from outside my country, at a university not in America and as such, with a different perspective.”
Last summer, Base spent two weeks studying abroad in Italy and Germany, but this will be her first time to spend an entire semester studying at a university in the United Kingdom.
“I’m very excited. This a great chance for me to learn, obviously about my major and minor, but also it’s a great chance for me to learn about the world and about myself,” she said. “I’m very lucky. I consider myself very blessed to have this opportunity.”
Base is currently majoring in psychology with a minor in political science.
After she earns her bachelor’s degree, she plans to continue her education by pursuing a master’s degree in psychology, after which, she hopes to work in data or research.
The Brad Henry International Scholarship program provides funding for selected students to participate in a semester-long study or research program affiliated with Swansea University. The funds cover tuition, room, and board, as well as providing additional expenses, such as airfare.
