Steve Doyle has been named operations manager of RSU Radio (KRSC FM 91.3), the college alternative radio station operated by Rogers State University.
Doyle is a graduate of RSU, receiving his bachelor’s and associate’s degrees in communications with an emphasis in radio and television. He will replace long-time radio veteran Alan Lambert, who retired last year.
As a student, Doyle served as the music director of RSU Radio and president of the RSU Student Broadcasting Association. He received several awards for his work in audio production and programming from the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association.
At RSU, he worked in the student affairs office, assisting with the promotion of campus events, including the unveiling of the Hillcat mascot and mascot tryouts.
After graduation, he worked for the Journal Broadcast Group in Tulsa, which operates KVOO-FM and KFAQ-AM. At the Journal Broadcast Group, he assisted with promotions and produced imaging for the KVOO web stream, gaining experience in many facets of radio.
“With the experience he has gained in commercial radio and his knowledge of the station’s format and equipment, he is a perfect match,” said Cathy Coomer, general manager of RSU Radio and communications instructor.
“RSU Radio is a vital student laboratory and a valuable public service arm of the university. Although it’s hard to replace someone of Alan Lambert’s caliber, Steve is learning the job quickly,” said Jeff Gentry, head of the RSU Department of Communications and Fine Arts.
In addition, RSU Radio has announced the purchase and upcoming installation of the new Scott Studios Audio Systems.
“We have been working very hard to get our on-air signal cleaner and stronger and once the Scott system is installed, we will be able to train our students on the same equipment currently being used by many commercial stations in Tulsa,” Coomer said.
The station will be receiving assistance with the installation of the new Scott Studios system from Ray Klotz, chief engineer with the Journal Broadcast Group. He will work with Doyle, who also used the system while at the organization, to help install and train the RSU Radio student and volunteer staff.
