RSU Public Television to Rebroadcast ‘America the Ignorant?’ May 21

A panel of area experts will appear in a rebroadcast of “America the Ignorant?” at 9 p.m. Thursday, May 21, on RSU Public Television.

The 60-minute program, produced by RSU Public Television, considers whether Americans are largely unaware of events shaping the global community, said Dr. Jeff Gentry, the show’s host. Gentry is also an associate professor and department head for the department of communications and acting department head for the department of psychology, sociology and criminal justice at RSU.

The program combines a panel discussion with on-camera opinions of ordinary Oklahoma citizens, as well as call-in questions from the viewing audience, taped on May 12.

The discussion panel includes Dr. Lara Foley, chair and associate professor of sociology at the University of Tulsa; Kenneth Hicks, chair and associate professor of history and political science at RSU; Derek Sparks, former legislative aide for international relations to Sen. Tom Coburn; and Dr. Juliet Evusa, RSU assistant professor of communications.

Panelists provided their perspectives on the topic and how it may impact the nation and the world. The critique includes the public, educators, and elites.

“The panel did a fantastic job of discussing and debating the issues,” Gentry said. “Viewers will be surprised by some of the points of agreement.”

Last fall Gentry hosted the program “Are All Politicians Liars?” also on RSU Public TV.

RSU Public TV is licensed to Rogers State University and is the only public television station to be operated by a university in Oklahoma. The station, based on the RSU campus in Claremore, reaches more than a million people within a 75-mile radius of the campus.

RSU Public TV broadcasts on digital channel 35.1 and 35.2, Tulsa and Claremore cable channel 19, Cable Channel 4 in Bartlesville and satellite channel 35 across northeastern Oklahoma.
