Construction of Rogers State University’s $1.3 million Pryor campus expansion is well under way and the project is scheduled for completion later this fall.
“The RSU Pryor Campus expansion is going very smoothly and we are very optimistic that we will begin our spring 2009 semester in the new building,” said Sherry Alexander, RSU Pryor campus director. “I am most excited for our students because the expansion will give them places to study and relax, and a computer lab that is always available to them.”
The approximately 7,400 square-foot expansion will include five classrooms, five offices, computer lab, commons area and restrooms. The expansion is adjacent to the existing campus building located at 421 S. Elliott St. and is being constructed to match the existing architecture.
Pryor-based Vargas Construction is serving as the construction contractor.
The expansion is approximately 60 percent complete and is scheduled to be completed by November, said Leonard Szopinski, director of the RSU Physical Plant.
Recently, rooftop-mounted air conditioning units were installed, he said.
“Our RSU Pryor campus is dedicated to our students and providing them a good place to start their college educations. The focus of the expansion is to better serve the students in our area,” Alexander said.
RSU is the only four-year university serving the Pryor and Mayes County area and on average more than 350 students attend the RSU Pryor campus each semester.
The $1.3 million project is being funded by a $300,000 grant from the Oliver Dewey Mayor Foundation in combination with funds from a state higher education bond issue and private contributions.
In addition to the new building, the expansion will include additional surface parking.
