Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW) 2025 is scheduled from Monday, Feb. 24, through Thursday, Feb. 27, on RSU’s Claremore campus.
A Rogers State University student organization will host a week of events to provide resources, promote education and support for those experiencing eating disorders and their associated risk factors.
Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW) 2025 is scheduled from Monday, Feb. 24, through Thursday, Feb. 27, on RSU’s Claremore campus.
Hosted by NEDA (National Eating Disorders Awareness) Campus Warriors, EDAW is a national campaign to educate the public about the realities of eating disorders and to provide hope and visibility to individuals and loved ones impacted by eating disorders.
Statistically, eating disorders have the second-highest mortality rate among mental health conditions, with one person dying from an eating disorder every 52 minutes, yet many are unaware of the barriers that can make it difficult to find recovery, including a lack of understanding about eating disorders and their impact.
This year’s theme, “The Time is Now,” aims to shift this perception through highlighting the importance of sharing knowledge and resources, encouraging early detection and treatment, and supporting ongoing research.
Scheduled activities include:
Monday, Feb. 24:
~ Beauty in Every Shape: Clay Crafting, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center Rec Room
This event is a fun-based event that is just a time for community and talking about eating disorders. This concept is based on the idea that regardless of the way someone is shaped, they are beautiful in their uniqueness.
~ Breaking the Silence Nutritionist, 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Baird Performance Hall
This is an education-based event featuring a guest speaker who will talk about the different nutrition habits, diet habits, and much more faced in college and busy lifestyles.
Tuesday, Feb. 25:
~ Trail Mix Bar, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center lobby
Helping students associate fun and community with eating no matter what it is. This also helps people who need a quick snack get a snack while in classes instead of skipping meals out of the stress of finding food.
~ Hang in There: Door Handle Hangers Craft, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m., Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center Rec Room
This event is a fun-based event encouraging people to engage in encouragement in every field. Door hangers are provided for individuals to write, paint, or draw on their door hangers all in the theme of encouragement, love, and acceptance.
Wednesday, Feb. 26:
~ Ditch & Thrift, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center lobby. This event is effectively a no-cost garage sale. Students may bring clothes that no longer represent or suit them and exchange them for something lightly used and new to them.
~ Healing Through Art: Art Therapy, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m., Preparatory Hall Room 314
Art therapy is a growing part of the psychological field, and NEDA is lucky enough to have a student as a member whose career is focused on art therapy. This student, Julia Hayes, will be leading a NEDA/eating disorder-centered art therapy to encourage individuals to feel their emotions and express them as a safe coping skill.
Thursday, Feb. 27:
~ Carry Acceptance: Tote Bag Decorating, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m., Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center Rec Room
Another event based on a fun educational time, tote bags and paint will be provided to students giving them time to enjoy themselves and have fun all while in a safe environment educating them on eating disorders and the community of RSU NEDA.
~ Dear Reader: Letters of Encouragement, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Library Room 2017
A fun event with RSU Pride, speaking out on the high rates of eating disorders among those who are in the LGBTQIA+ writing letters of encouragement for themselves or others who may need a note of encouragement.
