Michael Turner has been appointed dean of student affairs at Rogers State University.
Turner’s appointment was recently approved by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents – RSU’s governing board. He will oversee the areas of student development, student activities, residential life, career services, the Wellness Center, campus daycare and other services for all three RSU campuses.
Turner most recently served as a special assistant to the president at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla., where he was responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with students, faculty, staff and the community to provide guidance for university and student life activities.
Previously, he was director of admissions and prospective student recruitment at Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee and admissions recruiter and college strategies instructor at NSU. He also served nine years with the U.S. Marine Corps, where he earned the rank of captain.
He received a doctorate in occupational and adult education with a specialization in human resources and adult education from OSU; a master’s degree in college teaching with an emphasis in student personnel services and a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology, both from NSU; and an associate in applied science in electronics technology from OSU-Okmulgee.
Turner served on the board of directors for the Tahlequah Main Street Association, the Tahlequah Public School Foundation and the Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the First United Methodist Church in Tahlequah and as a commissioner for the Tahlequah Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a member of the Rotary Club in both Tahlequah and Okmulgee.
Turner, his wife Lisa and daughter Madison will reside in Claremore.
