The Rogers State University Music Program will present its annual fall concert on Tuesday, October 14 featuring the Jazz Ensemble, University Choir and Concert Band.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU campus in Claremore. Canned food donations will be accepted for admission.
The concert will feature two important anniversaries in music with the Concert Band’s performance of a medley from The Beatles’, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album honoring the 50th anniversary of their arrival in America, and the playing of a new setting of “The Star Spangled Banner” which is celebrating it’s 200th anniversary this Fall.
In addition, the ensembles will perform a variety of works from today including music from the Harry Potter movie series, “Somebody That I Used To Know” by Pentatonix, early 20th century favorites including “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin as well as the jazz staple “Stompin’ at the Savoy” by Benny Goodman, Chick Webb and Edgar Simpson.
“We hope to have something for everyone,” said RSU Director of Bands Dr. Kirk Weller.
The ensembles are comprised of RSU students and members of the community. There will be a short reception in the lobby following the concert hosted by the RSU Student Music Organization.
In addition to its concert schedule, RSU’s music program is working with the Claremore Symphony League to host an audition clinic and master class at the Claremore campus on October 16 and 17 for area high school students who are preparing for upcoming All-State and regional Honor Bands. The clinics will be offered by Tulsa Symphony performers who will work with small groups of musicians to review and critique performances. The master class sessions are free to area high school students, but advance registration is required.
