The new music program at Rogers State University is seeking members for its Jazz Band, Pep Band and Choir.
The ensembles are seeking RSU students as well as non-student members of the community to sign up for the fall semester, according to Dr. Phillip Payne, RSU director of bands and music instructor.
The RSU Jazz Band meets for rehearsals from 6-8:30 p.m. each Monday evening. Two concerts have been scheduled this fall, on Oct. 12 and Nov. 30. The themes of those concerts will be announced at a later date.
“All instrumentalists are welcome, especially those who play piano, saxophone and trombone,” Payne said. “Jazz Band members also may join the Jazz Combo, which will perform occasionally in the Claremore area.”
The RSU Pep Band is a volunteer organization designed to support Hillcat athletic teams, including men’s and women’s basketball. Participation is open to everyone and all instruments are needed, Payne said. An organizational meeting for the Pep Band will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Will Rogers Auditorium on the Claremore campus.
The RSU Choir is seeking new members for its 2009-2010 season which will feature a Dec. 5 performance of Handel’s “The Messiah” with the Tulsa Symphony Chamber Orchestra in Claremore. The choir will rehearse at 6 p.m. each Monday night during the fall semester. Auditions will not be required. Those interested in participating in the RSU Choir may call Liggitt at 637-7954.
