The Rogers State University Jazz Ensemble will present its annual fall concert on Monday, Nov. 29, featuring big band swing standards, classic jazz and funk rock.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Centennial Center on the RSU campus in Claremore. Canned food donations will be accepted for admission.
The ensemble will perform a variety of selections, from the 1930s swing standard ‘Undecided’ by Charles Shavers and the Count Basie classic ‘Jumpin’ At The Woodside’ to Miles Davis’s jazz waltz ‘All Blues’ and Freddie Hubbard’s funk rock standard ‘Red Clay’,” said Dr. Kirk Weller, RSU director of bands. “The RSU Jazz Ensemble has something for every jazz aficionado or casual listener.”
The ensemble is comprised of RSU students and members of the community, and is the cornerstone of the rebuilding effort currently under way to reestablish the RSU music program, Weller said.
“The program is seeking to expand and improve its offerings and impact on the university and community,” he said.
Scholarships are still available for those interested in being a part of the program. For more information, contact Weller at (918) 343-7723.
