The Rogers State University Jazz Band will offer a special winter holiday concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Will Rogers Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will have a winter and Christmas theme, featuring selections such as the Bing Crosby standard “White Christmas” and “Hot Chocolate” from the new holiday movie classic “The Polar Express.”
A special guest vocalist, Tammy Haymi, will perform solos on “Christmas Time is Here” from “A Charlie Brown Christmas,”and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. Other music to be performed will include the Duke Ellington classic “C Jam Blues” and the Count Basie standard “Shiny Stockings.”
The holiday concert follows the jazz band’s successful first concert in downtown Claremore in October. “We had a very large crowd and really great first concert,” said RSU band director Joe Cernuto. “We hope to follow up the great success of our outdoor concert with this winter concert and many more to come.”
The RSU Jazz Band is slated to perform twice during the spring semester, on March 3 and April 28. “Our spring concerts will be held in the ballroom of the new Student Center, and we’re very excited about that,” Cernuto said. “We’re looking forward to making music in this new and exciting venue.”
