Rogers State University will be hosting all students and teachers from Claremont Elementary during the upcoming Hillcat men’s basketball game at noon, Tuesday, Dec. 19.
The university annually arranges a holiday event for children at the school, which is the university’s partner in education. This year, RSU will host the children during the basketball game, provide each with a game-day meal, give each child a Hillcat t-shirt, have students participate in activities held during the scheduled timeouts, and hold a drawing for special door prizes, scheduled to include a boy’s and girl’s bicycle donated from an area merchant.
The university is seeking the following to help support this year’s Claremont event:
- Volunteers to assist with games, prize distribution, food service, and other event activities.
- Donations of unwrapped games, puzzles, balls, or other toys that can be distributed as prizes throughout the event.
- Cash donations to help offset costs for food, giveaway items to the students, and more.
RSU’s connection to the elementary school traces back more than 100 years when Eastern Oklahoma Preparatory School (today known as RSU) held its first classes at Claremont while Prep Hall was constructed. RSU later adopted Claremont Elementary as its partner in education to honor that connection while also serving students at one of Claremore’s most economically challenged schools.
Item donations or cash support can be dropped off at the RSU Office of Development during regular business hours, or you can contact Brandi Sutherland at 918-343-7773 or [email protected] for more information or to volunteer.
