Holiday shoppers can find unique and interesting gifts at a special exhibition and sale of art by Rogers State University students and faculty members. The Holiday Art Sale will be held Nov. 29 to Dec. 6 in the Foundations Gallery in Baird Hall, on the RSU campus in Claremore.
Organizers say the art show is popular because attendees often purchase student art for holiday gifts. The show, which includes works from a variety of media, will host a Christmas Art Gala reception, Friday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. to accommodate after-hours shopping.
Students set the prices for their pieces and the majority of the profit from the sale goes directly to the student artists. Twenty percent of the profits from the holiday art sale will benefit the Montone Study Abroad Program, a summer art program in Italy. Each summer, RSU offers the four-week summer art program in Montone, a small town in the Umbrian region of Italy. The students create and exhibit their art while in Montone, and travel in Italy during their stay.
The RSU Department of Fine Arts offers a bachelor’s of fine art in visual arts with options in graphic design, multimedia, photographic arts and studio art, as well as an associate in arts in liberal arts with an option in Native American studies. The department also offers minors in art, art history, graphic design, music, and Native American studies.
As part of the week’s events, there will also be a choral performance by the Claremore Community Chorus on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7.30 p.m. in the Foundations Gallery in Baird Hall. This is the first time that the Chorus will be presenting its annual winter concert at RSU.
Normal gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call the RSU Department of Fine Arts at 918-343-7740.
