Rogers State University and Walgreens will host members of the Claremore Hospital Auxiliary on Thursday, March 31, in the RSU Health Sciences Center, with a special appreciation luncheon. The Claremore Hospital Auxiliary has more than 100 volunteers who donate approximately 15,000 hours of service each year.
Walgreens is providing the RSU Foundation a generous contribution, which will make this year’s luncheon possible. “The RSU Foundation is extremely proud to partner with Walgreens on this very important event,” said Dr. Danette Boyle, RSU vice president for development.
Over the past 20 years, the Auxiliary has contributed more than $125, 000 to the RSU Foundation in support of both the nursing and emergency medicine programs. These funds have provided scholarships for many students over the years and have helped purchase much-needed educational equipment and materials.
In December 1990, the Auxiliary established, through the RSU Foundation, the Claremore Hospital Auxiliary Endowment. The purpose of the endowment is to provide annual scholarships to RSU students enrolled in the nursing or emergency medicine programs. Currently, five RSU students are receiving scholarships through funds provided by the Claremore Hospital Auxiliary. Receiving scholarships are Jennifer Fairchild, Tasha Bell, Kristi Hall, Nellie Franklin and Raychel Gordon.
In addition to these scholarships, the Claremore Hospital Auxiliary is also offering a scholarship for second-year nursing students through the RSU Foundation. The scholarship will provide full funding (tuition, fees, and books) for the entire school year. In exchange, recipients will work at Claremore Regional Hospital for two years after graduation. The scholarship offers students a unique opportunity to finance their education while guaranteeing two years of secure employment.
