The Rogers State University delegation enjoyed a strong showing at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature fall 2012 session. RSU students brought home three delegation awards and an individual honor.
The OIL competition took place at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City with sessions held in the House of Representative and Senate chambers.
RSU won Best Delegation in the House of Representatives. Students making up the House delegation were Claremore residents Billy Burr, Kyle Fields, Philip Jackson, Kadie James, Lindsey Martin and Jason Perkins, along with Liz Black of Big Cabin and Christopher Ornelas of Broken Arrow.
In the Senate, RSU earned second runner up. RSU student senators were Rebecca Burr and Jacob Daniel of Claremore, Reni Prescott and Stuart Tolson of Bartlesville, Ceciley Thomason of Colcord, and Adrean Shelly of Nowata.
RSU, with the fifth largest delegation attending the competition, also walked away with second runner up honors for Best Overall Delegation finishing behind only Oklahoma State University and Oral Roberts University.
Tolson received individual recognition as first runner up for Best Freshman Delegate in the Senate.
Several of the RSU delegation members also hold OIL state offices. Jackson is the speaker for the House of Representatives, Martins is the chief clerk for the House of Representatives, Daniel is the deputy president tempore of the Senate, and Shelly is chairman of the Senate Rules Committee and chairman of the Senate Standards & Ethics Committee.
