Two Rogers State University Collegiate Officer Program (COP) students recently graduated from the CLEET COP summer camp in Ada.

Held at East Central University, the summer camp is a five-day, 40-hour CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) camp to prepare criminal justice law enforcement majors to handle real life situations in the field.

Attending RSU students were Madeline “Jade” Lewis and Andrew “Drew” Horton, who graduated from the camp June 18.

Over the course of the six-week camp, Lewis and Horton completed training and certification in Firearms, LEDT (Law Enforcement Driver Training), Custody and Control, RADAR, SFST (Standardized Field Sobriety Testing), SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner), rigorous PT (Physical Training) and other law career-related training.

Later this summer, they will attend and complete the CLEET Legal Block with Technology and Justice Studies Assistant Professor Gerald Bender and will spend the first two weeks of July completing CLEET II Advanced Patrol and Advanced Traffic with COP Director and Advisor Professor Rob Turner.

After graduation, Lewis and Horton will be eligible to take the CLEET Peace Officer Qualification Exam, which they must pass with 80 percent proficiency. After being hired by an Oklahoma law enforcement agency, they may apply for CLEET certification as a peace officer with full authority to enforce the laws of the State of Oklahoma and the city or county of their jurisdiction.

RSU’s Collegiate Officer Program is offered to undergraduate criminal justice law enforcement majors. The purpose of the program is to provide the law enforcement major with an opportunity to complete State of Oklahoma peace officer certification through a Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) approved curriculum. Students not only receive their bachelor’s degrees but have an advantage when competing for employment in the law enforcement field as they will have already completed the peace officer training mandates which are established in Oklahoma state statutes.
