oma reunion announcement

The Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA) Reunion will kick off this Friday, Sept. 22, and continue through Saturday, Sept. 23, at Rogers State University in Claremore.

The OMA Reunion is held annually on the RSU campus, as OMA is the university’s predecessor institution. OMA operated on the Hill from 1919 to 1971. The reunion welcomes back former OMA cadets and students for a weekend of fellowship, activities and memories.

Reunion registration check-in begins at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the OMA Museum in Meyer Hall, followed by the Alumni Golf Classic at 9 a.m. on the Heritage Hills Golf Course.

Lunch follows from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and is available both for those playing golf and also for the alumni and guests not participating in the golf tournament.

Also Friday will be the Ladies Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the OMA Museum Conference Room, hosted by RSU First Lady Peggy Rice. Reservations for the luncheon are required.

Tours of the Oklahoma Military Academy Museum will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday inside Meyer Hall, showcasing several upgrades and restorations to the museum which made it a state-of-the-art facility. The OMA Museum tells the story of more than 10,000 cadets who attended from 1919 to 1971. The museum collects, preserves and exhibits items relevant to the school’s storied history, including a recreated typical cadet room and a bust of Lt. Gen. William E. Potts, who is the highest-ranking alumnus of OMA.

RSU Professor Curtis Sparling and his students will host a drone presentation from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center and the day will conclude at 5:30 p.m. with a reunion reception and buffet, in the ballroom of the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center. The dinner will include an “open mic” to allow attendees to share their memories and reflections on their most important mentor during their time at OMA.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, the day begins with coffee and pastries at 8 a.m. at the reunion registration check-in at the OMA Alumni Office and OMA Museum in Meyer Hall. Museum tours will be held from 9 to 10 a.m.

At 10 a.m., Alumni Ceremonies will be held in the Will Rogers Auditorium, at which, OMA recently deceased alumni will be honored, Distinguished Alumni and Hall of Fame Awards will be presented, as will the Lt. General William E. Potts Award of Excellence. Color Guard presentation will be made by the RSU Guard Officer Leadership Development (GOLD) Program students.

The Alumni Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center Ballroom, with comments from RSU President Dr. Larry Rice, OMA Perseverance Awards, OMA Honorary Cadets, President’s Awards, and more.

The weekend’s activities will conclude Saturday evening at the reception, dinner, grand march and dance, held 5:30 p.m. in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center Ballroom.
