Rogers State University will host its annual Scholarship Fundraising Breakfast supporting Bartlesville area students at 8:00 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Bartlesville Community Center, 300 S.E. Adams Blvd.
The RSU Scholarship Fundraising Breakfast is free, but RSVPs are required. Contributions are encouraged with proceeds directly funding scholarships for Bartlesville area students.
This year, 13 Bartlesville area students receive $2,000 scholarships funded by breakfast proceeds, including Katelyn Abrams, Russell Arellanes, Jessie Crabtree, Rosonna Ennis, Hannah Fonseca, Amanda Goodale, Kyle, Lewis, Alexis Lorenz, Sadie Reed, Wade Sturges, Jeremiah J. Vick, Daniel Young and Ethan Benjamin Younge.
Students like Crabtree, a recent graduate from Barnsdall with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, use the scholarship when life circumstances throw difficulties at them.
Crabtree said she didn’t know how she was going to pay for school after her mother died in 2011. The scholarship meant that she could stop worrying and it proved the difference between her taking a semester off to work and staying in school.
“I’m thankful to all those who contribute to this scholarship,” she said.
Spencer Doupe and Katheryn Gunter will be recognized as recipients of the Dewey Spirit Scholarship during the breakfast.
Current sponsors for this event include: Bartlesville Radio (KWON, KYFM, KRIG, KPMG); Blueview Agency; Conoco Phillips; DSR; Keleher Outdoor Advertising; The Musselman Abstract Company; Osage Casino; Phillips 66; RCB Bank; Truity Credit Union; Walmart Logistics; Wymer, Brownlee, Mansfield – John Mansfield; Bill and Vicki Beierschmitt; Mark and Debbie Haskell; and Marshall and Tana McGraw.
