The Rogers State University Bands and Choir will perform two concerts in November as part of its fall concert series.
The RSU Concert Band and Choir is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m., Thursday, November 16, and the RSU Jazz Ensemble is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 30. Both concerts will be held at the Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU campus in Claremore. The concerts are free and open to the public.
“The RSU music program really showcases the talents of our students and community performers,” said Walter Kelly, RSU Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Fine Art. “We are pleased to organize this free public concert as part of the university’s continued artistic outreach efforts in the Claremore region.”
The RSU Concert Band is directed by Chris Mann and will play music from a variety of movie themes, two of which are arranged by Mann. The RSU Choir, directed by Ginger Meyer, will sing cappella-style Christmas and holiday songs.
The Jazz Band, under the direction of Kelly, will perform musical repertoire of blues, bebop, samba, ballads and contemporary music by Charlie Parker, Charlie Barnet, Ray Charles, Victor Young and Pat Metheny.
The RSU music program provides an opportunity for students to hone their instrumental and performance skills in a university environment. Members of the community also are invited to participate.
RSU’s Department of Fine Arts offers a minor in music with opportunities to participate in four musical ensembles.
