Rogers State University musical groups will be performing their fall concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, in the Will Rogers Auditorium on the Claremore campus.
Members of the RSU Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and the University Choir will perform a variety of pieces during the event, which will be free and open to the public.
Canned food items will be collected at the door benefitting RSU Residential Life’s “Food For Thought,” a food pantry for RSU students who might be having difficulty putting nutritious food on the table.
The University Choir will be performing a selection of works that include “Festival Sanctus,” “Someday Little Children,” Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from “Carousel,” the Beatles’ “Blackbird” and “¡Cantar!”
Selections from the RSU Concert Band are scheduled to include “La Péri Fanfare,” “Americans We,” “A Hymn Tune Rhapsody” and “Fanfares, Mules and Roosters.”
The RSU Jazz Ensemble are expected to perform “Midnight Passage,” “Afternoon in Paris,” John Coltrane’s “Naima,” and “5.4 on the Richter Scale.”
Dr. Kirk Weller, RSU director of bands, said “Fanfare” was written by Paul Dukas for his ballet, “La Péri.”
“While the ballet may not be performed often, the fanfare has become a standard concert piece that is enjoying its 100th year anniversary this year,” Weller said.
In addition to other works performed, the Jazz Ensemble and University Choir will feature two selections that have quickly become signature pieces for the groups, “Midnight Passage” and “Festival Sanctus” respectively.
RSU musical groups are open to RSU students, as well as members of the community.
