Gary Moeller, professor of art and one of the longest-serving faculty members at Rogers State University, will deliver the address at the associate degree commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7.
The associate degree commencement exercises will begin at 10 a.m. at the Claremore Expo Center.
Ken Miller, Oklahoma state treasurer, will be featured speaker at the bachelor’s degree commencement ceremony at 1 p.m., also at the Expo Center.
Moeller, who is head of the RSU Department of Fine Arts, has taught art at RSU since 1979, and has held several administrative positions, including instructor, coordinator and director of the institution’s art department.
Previously, he taught at Broward County (Fla.) Community Schools, Tulsa Community College and the University of Tulsa study abroad program.
Moeller served as RSU’s North Central Association self-study co-coordinator, helping to lead a process that led to a maximum of 10 years of accreditation for the university, without any required follow-up reports or visits.
He was instrumental in the development of the university’s bachelor of fine arts in visual arts program.
In addition to his role as department head, he teaches a variety of art courses, and is coordinator of the university’s summer art program in Italy, its first study abroad initiative.
While at RSU, he has received numerous honors and awards, for teaching and community service.
Moeller is an accomplished and well-known artist, whose work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the nation, including the Philbrook Museum of Art and Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, as well as galleries and museums in Arkansas, Missouri and New Mexico.
He received a master of fine arts in drawing and art history from the University of Tulsa and bachelor of fine arts in painting, drawing and art history from Southwest Missouri State University.
