A chapter of the international Sigma Beta Delta business honor society has been installed at Rogers State University.
Sigma Beta Delta recognizes scholarship and achievement among students of business, management and administration, and promotes personal and professional improvement and service to mankind.
The top 20 percent of RSU business seniors and the top 10 percent of juniors are eligible for recognition in the honor society, said Dr. MaryRose Hart, RSU assistant professor in the Department of Business. Faculty officers for the local chapter include: Hart, president and faculty advisor; Dr. Roy Gardner, associate professor in the Department of Applied Technology, vice president; and Dr. Bert Tollison, department head for the Department of Business, secretary/treasurer.
The local chapter plans to have its first induction of students later this fall, with another induction ceremony planned during the spring. Afterwards, the chapter plans on an annual induction ceremony each spring.
Founded in 1986, Sigma Beta Delta is comprised of institutions offering baccalaureate and graduate degrees in business, management, and administration where the institution holds accreditation from one of the six regional accrediting bodies but not specialized accreditation in business. The society has 225 chapters in 45 states and one international chapter in the United Arab Emirates. The society’s only other chapter in Oklahoma is at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Membership in the honor society provides students with acknowledgement of their scholastic excellence, which is recognized by employers throughout the country, and national networking opportunities.
