Eight faculty members were recognized by Rogers State University for excellence in teaching, scholarship and service during its annual convocation held Thursday, Aug. 5.
Bryce Brimer, associate professor of fine arts, was named the recipient of the Pixley Excellence in Education Award.
The Pixley award is the highest honor bestowed upon a member of the RSU faculty. The recipient is selected on the basis of a peer nomination and review process, conducted by the RSU faculty body. The Pixley award is made possible by the Pixley Endowment for Excellence in Education at RSU.
Brimer, who also received the Excellence in Service Award for the School of Liberal Arts, has taught at RSU since 2004. He serves as art director for the Cooweescooee Arts and Humanities Journal, coordinator of the RSU Gallery, advisor to the RSU Arts Club, and sits on the University Assessment Committee, Enrollment Management Committee and the Bachelor of Fine Arts Committee.
Also receiving the Excellence in Service Award were Dr. Cathy Kennemer of the School of Business and Technology and Dr. Adele Register of School of Mathematics, Science and Health Sciences. Kennemer is an assistant professor of business and a faculty advisor to the RSU Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE). Register is an assistant professor of math and science and serves on the RSU Library Committee and the Bartlesville Community Education Advisory Council, and is a member of the Association for the Study of Higher Education.
The Excellence in Teaching Award was presented to Georgeann Daniels of the School of Mathematics, Science and Health Sciences, Dr. Mike McKeon of the School of Liberal Arts and Dr. Terry Sutton of the School of Business and Technology. Daniels is an assistant professor of nursing, a registered nurse and a member of the American Association of Nurse Educators. McKeon is an assistant professor of fine arts, a member of the RSU Faculty Senate and a member of The Foucault Society. Sutton is a professor of economics.
The Excellence in Scholarship Award was given to Dr. David Blakely of the School of Liberal Arts and Dr. Susan Chinburg of the School of Business and Technology. Blakely is an associate professor of communications, director of the theatre program and an accomplished playwright. Chinburg is an assistant professor of applied technology, a member of Sigma Beta Delta and a member of the Association of Information Systems.
