Two Rogers State University administrators are being recognized by their peers for excellence in student affairs.
Dr. Tobie Titsworth, RSU Vice President of Student Affairs, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Oklahoma College Student Personnel Association at the organization’s annual conference. Misty Smith, RSU Director of Student Development, received the Outstanding Professional Award during the event.
Dr. Titsworth, or Dr. T as he is known by students and staff, has spent nearly 20 years at RSU and is retiring this summer. He first came to RSU in 1979 when it was known as Claremore Junior College after serving in the U.S. Air Force and in several academic posts since. Titsworth was recalled to active duty for three years in the mid-1990s before returning to academia. Titsworth has served as RSU’s Vice President of Student Affairs since 2008.
In nominating Titsworth, RSU Student Affairs workers noted the longtime educator’s desire to help others. “He recognizes all those people who have shaped his life and for those exact qualities he has a powerful hand in shaping others. He is there to lead and to listen,” the nomination letter said. “There is no doubt that Dr. T loves what he does, and he inspires all those around him to try harder and care more each day.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award from the OCSPA honors individuals who have made substantial contributions within the area of Student Affairs in Oklahoma. Individuals are recognized for demonstrating extraordinary strength of character, commitment to student success, a history of service in Student Affairs, and significant contributions to Oklahoma College Student Personnel Association during their career.
Smith has been with RSU since 2006, most recently serving as RSU Director of Student Development. RSU Student Affairs coworkers point out that Smith oversees Student Activities, Career Services, Counseling Services and Disability Services at RSU but does much more.
“All students and staff who have the opportunity to work with her have benefitted from her experience, counsel, skill, leadership and integrity,” Smith’s nomination letter said. “Her contributions to Rogers State have been numerous, and she is always willing to take on difficult projects and make them successful.”
The Outstanding Professional Award is presented to professionals who have made significant contributions to his or her campus, OCSPA, and the Student Affairs profession.
