The Rogers State University campus in Claremore will be the site for a regional disaster training exercise from approximately 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
Emergency responders from Claremore Fire Department, Claremore Police Department, RSU Campus Police, the Rogers County Emergency Management Office and both city hospitals will be participating in the drill, which will be located off Col. Horne Drive between University Village B and the Physical Plant. The drill will simulate a tornado striking and injuring several people in that location. A number of emergency vehicles will be travelling in and around campus that morning as part of the exercise.
University officials want to warn the campus community in advance of the drill. Horne Drive will be blocked during the drill, and students and employees should avoid the UVB/Physical Plant area on Wednesday morning, if possible.
To alleviate traffic to and from the University Village B parking lot, the parking lot gates on Blue Starr Drive will be open that morning. Parking for UVB residents should not be impeded during the drill.
University departments regularly work with emergency service agencies to ensure the safety of the campus community, and officials selected this location to help alleviate campus traffic concerns during this busy time.
