Many details about our solar system’s largest planet remains shrouded in mystery, but a NASA engineer will explain how she and other scientists are trying to learn more about Jupiter during an Oct. 25 presentation at Rogers State University.
Dr. Tracy Drain, a rising star for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will be on the RSU campus in Claremore to present her talk, “Exploring the Mysteries of Jupiter with Juno,” at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25 in Health Sciences Room 131. Her presentation is free and open to the public.
Drain currently serves as a systems engineer with the Jet Propulsion Lab where she is working on the Juno Mission to Jupiter. During her talk, she will provide background and an update on the Juno Mission, which is now two years into its five-year journey to Jupiter. Drain will share details of the mission, including an overview of how the spacecraft works, how a gravity assist from the Earth will help it reach Jupiter and what we hope to learn about the giant planet once Juno arrives.
Drain is returning to RSU’s campus as part of the Aero Games, a middle school and high school competition focusing on science and technology principles. This is the second year for the event, which is sponsored by Google and RSU. Drain, who also attended the inaugural Aero Games competition, will interact with the contestants and speak to the students at 2 p.m. prior to the event’s closing ceremony on Oct. 26.
