Marelda Ayal is a spring 2024 graduate that came to Rogers State University on a golf scholarship in 2020 to earn a bachelor’s degree in strategic communications. Originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, her journey led her to RSU where she found not just an academic institution, but a nurturing community that felt like family.
“I love RSU for its welcoming, family-like atmosphere, where I’ve built close relationships with professors, staff, and peers that I will cherish forever. Everyone is here to help you, and if they cannot, they will direct you to someone who will,” she said. “Everyone here wants you to be successful.”
At RSU, Ayal thrived in her strategic communication major where she sharpened her skills in things she was truly passionate about. RSU immersed her in coursework that challenged her to think critically and creatively.
“I love my major because it allows me to hone some of the skills that I love and am very confident about myself such as communication, networking, presenting, and so on, which I am passionate about and eager to improve even further. With that and the rest of the things this degree taught me, I know it equipped me with the things I will need to thrive in the corporate world, which is where I envision my future career to be,” Ayal said.
Her journey from Jakarta to Rogers State University was marked by a blend of excitement and anticipation. Now, she is armed with a portfolio of experiences from RSU, both in the classroom and on the golf course.
One of her most recent accomplishments was being named First Team All-MIAA. She continues to thrive with the growth and resilience that was forged in her at RSU. Ayal has embarked on her career with optimism and determination, taking the Hillcat spirit with her wherever she goes.
