News On 6 meteorologists Travis Meyer and Stacia Knight will discuss weather safety as one of the highlights of Rogers State University Pryor’s 911 Week, which includes activities and presentations emphasizing campus and community safety.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the News On 6 meteorologists will give a presentation on tornadoes and severe weather at noon in the RSU Pryor Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Meyer joined the News On 6 Warn Team in 2005, bringing more than 30 years of meteorology experience as its chief meteorologist. He has been honored with numerous service awards and earned the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasting award for best weathercast presentation. Meyer is a member of the National Weather Association and holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval. Knight joined the News On 6 weather team in 2012 as an intern and later was hired as a weather producer, then as a meteorologist.
This is second year for RSU Pryor’s 911 Week, which is intended to increase awareness of safety issues. Activities are planned around the week of Sept. 11 because the 9/11 date corresponds with the emergency telephone number used nationwide. Each day of 911 Week features a specific theme focused on emergency preparedness.
In addition to the presentation from Meyer and Knight at noon, Tuesday’s Weather Preparedness Day will include campus tornado drills at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 9, will feature Fire Preparedness Day with campus fire drills at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The Pryor Fire Department will hold a presentation at noon in the RSU Pryor Auditorium and the department’s new ladder truck will be on display in the Circle Drive from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 10, will cover Medical Emergency Preparedness Day with RSU Emergency Medical Services students participating in a campus triage drill at 9 a.m. MESTA will be on hand for the drill, with LifeFlight scheduled to land one of its helicopters in the parking lot at the same time. At 10 a.m., there will be a presentation on medical emergencies in the RSU Pryor Auditorium. A free CPR/AED training session will be held at 2:30 p.m., but advance registration for that session is required.
