News on 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer is one of the highlights of RSU Pryor’s 911 Week that begins September 8.
On Tuesday, September 9, Meyer will give a presentation on tornadoes and severe weather at noon in the RSU Pryor Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Meyer joined the News On 6 Warn Team in 2005, bringing more than 30 years of meteorology experience to the team. He is one of Northeast Oklahoma’s most trusted and most respected meteorologists.
Meyer has been honored with numerous service awards and earned the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasting award for best weathercast presentation. Meyer is a member of the National Weather Association and holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval.
Each day during 911 Week has a specific theme.
Monday, September 8 is Fire Preparedness Day with a campus fire drill at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and a presentation from Pryor Fire Department at noon in the RSU Pryor Auditorium. The new Pryor FD ladder truck will be on display in the Circle Drive from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and free fire extinguisher training will be provided by NTC in the front parking lot from 1 until 3 p.m.
Tuesday, September 9 is Weather Emergency Preparedness Day with a campus tornado drill at 10 a.m. and Meyer’s presentation at noon.
Wednesday, September 10 is Armed Intruder Preparedness Day. RSU Police will have a “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” presentation in the RSU Pryor Auditorium at 10 a.m. with a campus lockdown/intruder drill at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday, September 11 is Medical Emergency Preparedness Day with RSU EMS students participating in a campus triage drill at 9 a.m. LifeFlight will also be landing one of their helicopters in the parking lot at the same time. A medical emergency video will be shown at noon in the RSU Pryor Auditorium. CPR/AED training will be provided by RSU Assistant Professor and EMS Coordinator Clem Ohman in Meeting Room 121.
Friday, September 12 is Chemical Spill Emergency/HAZMAT Day. There will be a presentation by Mayes County Emergency Services at 10 a.m.
