Jennifer Smith has been named assistant director for the Office of Communications and Marketing at Rogers State University. Smith will focus on maintaining a positive public image for the university, assisting with the development and execution of communication campaigns and the writing of feature stories.
“We are pleased to add Jennifer to our team,” Brandon Irby, director of communications and marketing, said. “Jennifer brings with her significant media and reporting experience along with a variety of communications skills.”
A native of Edmond, Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Oklahoma Christian University and spent several years as a staff and freelance news reporter before advancing in her career. She has held roles at the University of Mississippi and Northern Oklahoma College.
Previously as Director of Marketing at Northern Oklahoma College, Smith won several awards for sports writing through the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association in 2015 and 2016. She recently returned to Oklahoma after spending four years in New Mexico. During this time she was the program director of a nonprofit and the director of sales for two Marriott hotels.
“I look forward to stepping back into higher education. Utilizing my skills and experience from multiple industries, I will build on the history and foundation set before me to build rapport and media engagement,” Smith said. “RSU has high caliber students, faculty and staff, and we have so many great stories to tell. It’s a great time to be a Hillcat!”

Formerly known as the Office of Public Relations, it maintains clear, open, and proactive relationships with all media outlets.
