RSU’s Office of Student Affairs will host an event to recognize and honor the university’s international student population.

The fifth annual International Flag Ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center on the RSU Claremore campus.

According to RSU Student Activities Coordinator Meg Thompson, the annual ceremony recognizes international students enrolled at the university.

“This is a time where we rotate out our permanent display of flags hung in the Rotunda to properly resemble the flags of the countries from which we currently have students attending,” Thompson said. “It’s a celebration of all the different cultures that we have represented at our campus and letting them know they’re appreciated and welcomed as we integrate their culture into the Rogers State University community.”

Fittingly, the ceremony will be held in the DCTC rotunda, where flags from countries around the world – each representing the country of RSU’s international students – remain on display.

“We’re happy to be adding three new flags this year – those from Turkey, Zambia and Bangladesh – which we’re honored to add to the all the other nations’ flags on display,” she said.

International students will also be present to discuss their countries of origin, and informational pamphlets will be distributed, with light refreshments provided.

Rogers State University currently has 68 international (F1 visa) students currently enrolled.
