RSU’s Office of Student Affairs will host an event next week to recognize and honor its international students at Rogers State University.
The third annual International Flag Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the rotunda of the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center on the Claremore campus.
“This (ceremony) is held yearly to signify and recognize new students from other countries who are enrolled at RSU,” said Kaitlin Tyrell, international advising and retention specialist. “It’s a celebration of all of the different cultures that we have represented at our campus and letting them know they’re appreciated and welcomed as we integrate their culture into the Rogers State University.”
Appropriately, the ceremony will be held in the DCTC rotunda, where flags from countries around the world – each representing the country of RSU’s international students – remain on display.
“We’re excited to be adding five new flags this year – those from the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Bangladesh and Nepal – which we’re honored to add to the more than 70 other nations’ flags currently on display,” Tyrell said.
During the ceremony, RSU President Dr. Larry Rice and other guest speakers will discuss the importance of RSU’s international student presence.
International students will also be present to discuss their countries of origin, and informational pamphlets will be distributed, with light refreshments provided.
Rogers State University currently has 77 international (F1 visa) students enrolled.
