Friday evening’s RSU Homecoming bonfire, pep rally and movie on the Westbend Green have been cancelled due to predicted high winds. Forecasted high winds and gusting winds caused potential safety issues with the bonfire, as well as installation of the outdoor projection screen for the movie.
University officials regret these activities couldn’t proceed as planned, but they cancelled Friday night’s activities to ensure the safety of RSU family and friends.
RSU Homecoming will conclude on Saturday with tailgate activities starting at 11:30 a.m. outside the Expo Center. The tailgating area will feature a pre-game celebration for the whole family with free food (while supplies last), photo booth, games and prizes. The tailgate is free and open to the public. A new addition to this year’s homecoming tailgate will be a Corn Hole Tournament. Interested participants must preregister their team of two at www.rsu.edu/homecoming. Cost to enter the tournament is $10 per team.
The women’s basketball game will tip off at 2 p.m. and the men’s game following at 4 p.m. The 2017 RSU Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of the men’s game. The homecoming court will also include the Homecoming Prince and Princess from Claremont Elementary School, RSU’s partner in the Hillcub Program.
General admission game tickets can be purchased for $7 for adults or $4 for students and seniors. Children 12 and younger as well as all RSU students, faculty and staff (with ID) are free.
