Mario Frangoulis, world-renown Greek tenor, will be featured in a special concert titled “Music of the Night,” along with local in-studio interviews, at 8 p.m. Friday, June 18, and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, on RSU Public Television.
The concert was filmed at the Herod Atticus Theatre below the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, and makes its American debut this year.
“Music of the Night” is a personal selection of songs, from classical arias to musicals and roles Frangoulis has enjoyed performing, to original songs from his own recordings and, colorful melodies of the Mediterranean. He is known for his powerful and charismatic live performances, which are a reflection of his persona as an artist, diverse and far reaching. He is able, because of his vocal and theatre training, to reach across boundaries and touch his audiences through language (singing in English, Spanish, French, Italian and Greek), and musical style (opera, pop, rock, folk, world). He is best known for his song, “Vincerò, Perderò.”
Accompanying him will be the Novaya Opera of Moscow Symphony Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Evgeny Samoilov, and guest soloists Deborah Myers and George Misailidis.
Frangoulis recently visited the studios of RSU Public Television in Claremore and spoke about his life, career, and love for music. He is fluent in five languages, is an accomplished violinist, and is recognized all over the world for his philanthropic work and commitment to humanitarian causes. He has overcome challenges in his own life and speaks of how music has been a source of healing and expression throughout his life.
The special concert on RSU Public Television will feature in-studio interviews with Mario, conducted by Stephanie Baumgarte, RSU membership and programming coordinator, and Annette Riherd, host of RSU Public Television’s “In the Garden.” Viewers will have the opportunity to obtain his latest CD/DVD combo pack of “Music of the Night” which is not available in stores but only through RSU Public Television.
