Rogers State University, in collaboration with Cameron University, will host an event to allow high school students the opportunity to learn about the university’s education programs, admissions process, and opportunities available at RSU for future teachers and educators.
Future Educators Day will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center on the RSU campus in Claremore. Attendees will gain valuable insight into the program with the provision of helpful resources, interacting with current RSU students and faculty, observing an education class and touring the campus. Future Educators Day is anticipated to end around noon.
“This event is a great opportunity for high school students to learn about RSU, about our education programs, and to learn more about what Rogers State is all about,” said Emily Duncan, campus events coordinator. “This (event) is made possible through our partnership with Cameron University, the main campus of which is located in Lawton, Oklahoma, but they actually have a kind of ‘mini-campus’ here in the middle of Claremore’s RSU campus.”
The Bachelor of Science in elementary education is a joint venture of RSU and Cameron. Both universities are regional institutions under the governance of the OU Board of Regents.
Under the RSU and Cameron collaborative elementary education degree program, students can earn an Associate of Arts in elementary education in two years from RSU then transition into Cameron’s portion of the program, completing all requirements for a bachelor’s degree from Cameron in two years on the RSU campus in Claremore.
“Working together with Rogers State University, students can earn their degrees in elementary or secondary education through RSU, then go on to get their bachelor’s degree through Cameron, while still in Claremore,” said Jayne McLoughlin, advisement specialist on the RSU Claremore campus for Cameron University. “RSU is a great university to work with. We greatly appreciate the partnership, which ultimately benefits the students the most.”
