The Rogers State University Criminal Justice Society will sponsor a Homicide Investigation Symposium on Friday, April 24, that will feature a keynote from an award-winning former FBI criminal profiler.
The symposium will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in Conference Rooms B and C in the Centennial Center on the Claremore campus. The event is free and open to the public.
John Mabry, an award-winning criminal profiler who worked with the FBI for 25 years, will provide the keynote address. Currently serving as associate professor of forensic science and criminal justice at the University of Central Oklahoma, Mabry will speak about his experience working with homicide, robbery and organized crimes. Detectives from the Tulsa Police Department will discuss homicide investigation, and Wagoner County Sheriff Bob Colbert will talk about death notifications.
The symposium is being held in conjunction with a Homicide Investigations class taught by Brian Watters, an instructor of criminal justice at RSU. He also serves as the faculty advisor for the RSU Criminal Justice Society. Watters says students of the class planned the event, including the topics and speakers.
Students will also hold a canned food drive during the symposium. Donations will benefit food banks in Rogers County.
