The Rogers State University Jazz Ensemble will present its final concert of the spring semester on Monday, April 26.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Centennial Center on the RSU campus in Claremore. However, donations will be accepted.
The title of the concert will be “Jazzapalooza” and will celebrate the eclectic history and development of the one truly American musical art form — jazz. Music performed will range from a Dixieland flavored rendition of “Basin Street Blues” to a jazz version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, “My Favorite Things.” Music performed will represent the decades of the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
“We’re looking forward to this concert as a continuation of the outstanding performances from extremely successful fall and spring season,” said Dr. Phillip Payne, director of RSU bands. “We hope everyone will come out to support the jazz ensemble as well as enjoy some great music.”
The concert will feature Sonny Rollins’ hit “St. Thomas,” Herbie Hancock’s hit “Cantaloupe Island,” Duke Ellington’s timeless hit “In a Mellow Tone,” and Robert Parissi’s hit “Play That Funky Music.” In addition, selections by Charlie Parker and Rodgers and Hammerstein will be performed.
