Rogers State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning but things quickly went downhill from there as the Hillcats committed six errors and lost, 10-3, at Bacone College on Tuesday.
Jake Brumble led off the game with a single up the middle and Greg Speed followed with a single to left. Tim Gwartney another single two batters later as the Hillcats plated three runs to start the opening frame. However, RSU gave the runs right back in the bottom of the first, committing errors on the first two ground balls of the inning and Bacone quickly tied the game, 3-3.
The Warriors took the lead in the fourth when Travis Bernard tripled and scored on a two-out error. Things really got away from RSU in the seventh as Bacone scored four times, highlighted by a three-run homer by designated hitter Jeremy Carey. The Warriors added two more in the eighth to reach the final margin, 10-3.
Brett Trzcinski (0-1) suffered the loss for RSU despite allowing no earned runs over five innings of work. Dan Wheeler earned the win for Bacone. With the loss the Hillcats fell to 6-9 on the season. RSU will travel to St Gregory’s for a doubleheader on Thursday, Mar. 1. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
