Rogers State University has named David Hamby as its director of public relations, effective Nov. 28.
The appointment marks Hamby’s return to RSU, where he previously served as public relations coordinator from 2001 to 2006. Prior to rejoining the RSU staff, he served the past five years as director of university relations at The University of Tulsa.
“David combines a significant amount of experience in higher education public relations with first-hand knowledge of RSU and the communities we serve,” said Dr. Larry Rice, RSU president. “It’s my sincere pleasure to welcome him back to the Hill.”
Hamby has worked in the communications field for the past two decades, including nearly a dozen years in higher education at Oklahoma State University, RSU and TU while earning state and national awards along the way. He previously served as a newspaper reporter at the Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith, Ark., and communications director for the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce.
At TU, Hamby oversaw publication and public relations needs for the university, including launch of its comprehensive web site and communication support for TU’s recently concluded $698 million fundraising campaign.
Active in the community, Hamby was honored in 2008 with TU’s Medicine Wheel Award that recognizes a TU staff member for exceptional community service activities. He has served in leadership roles for the University School at TU and two neighborhood associations in Tulsa. He also has served as a race day committee member for the Tulsa Run since 2004.
A native of Pawhuska, Okla., he holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from OSU.
